Cotton fiber is the basic raw material to the cotton textile industry as well as being eco-friendly. Cotton farming needs a hot and moist climate, and Sri Lanka has an ideal atmosphere for this.
These cotton can still be seen in some areas of Sri Lanka. These areas had more than 60,000 acres of cotton in the 1960s and 1970s but later devastated. The environment is giving signals to the people to say that “we are ready to be grown again in this wonderful climate and perfect soil”. But the people are not answering such signs and completely ignoring them as they don’t see a future with cotton. They walk alone on these beautiful cotton crops but have no active involvement to grow them again. In few cases, I have heard that some of them have taken this pure cotton to fill in their pillows and store some cotton wool at the house.
